Smile 2 is once again written and directed by Finn. The first installment was based on his 2020 short film Laura Hasn’t Slept. It is produced by Finn, Marty Bowen, Wyck Godfrey, Isaac Klausner, and Robert Salerno. Additional cast includes Raúl Castillo, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Daphne Zelle, Zebedee Row, and A Nightmare on Elm Street alum Kyle Gallner.

Produced by MGM, the film sees action star Jason Statham as a retired beekeeper with a secret look for vengeance against a multi-billion dollar company scamming people out of their money.

David Ayer has directed films such as Training Day, Bright, End of Watch and Fury. But he is most known for the failed Suicide Squad film which continues to have rumors about Warner Bros releasing an Ayer Cut similar to the Snyder Cut of Justice League years later.

About the film:

Starring alonside Statham, The Beekeeper also stars Emmy Raver-Lampman, Josh Hutcherson, Bobby Naderi, Minnie Driver, Phylicia Rashad, and Jeremy Irons.

“In The Beekeeper, one man’s brutal campaign for vengeance takes on national stakes after he is revealed to be a former operative of a powerful and clandestine organization known as Beekeepers,” the official synopsis reads.

The Beekeeper marks Ayer’s first directorial effort since 2020’s The Tax Collector. He’s also known for directing 2012’s End of Watch, 2014’s Sabotage, 2014’s Fury, 2016’s Suicide Squad, and 2017’s Bright.

With a script by Kurt Wimmer (Expend4bles, Salt), The Beekeeper is produced by Statham, Ayer, Bill Block, Chris Long, and Wimmer. Andrew Golov, Thom Zadra, and Mark Birmingham serve as executive producers.

The Beekeeper comes after a busy 2023 for Statham, as the Transporter actor has starred in a number of films released in the past year. He played a major role in Guy Ritchie’s Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, which came out in March in the United States, before he then reprised his role as Deckard Shaw in Fast X. Following that, Statham starred in Meg 2: The Trench, a sequel to 2018’s The Meg that was directed by Ben Wheatley. He also returned to the character of Lee Christmas in Expend4bles, which is still playing in theaters.

The Beekeeper arrives in theaters on January 12, 2024, from MGM.

About Horizon:

Horizon: An America Saga is set over a 15-year period during the American Civil War. Plot details are largely being kept under wraps at this time; however, according to Deadline, the epic will see Costner battle natural elements and interact with the indigenous peoples affected by the settlement of the American West.

Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jena Malone, Abbey Lee, Michael Rooker, Danny Huston, Luke Wilson, Isabelle Fuhrman, Jeff Fahey, Will Patton, Tatanka Means, Owen Crow Shoe, Ella Hunt, and Jamie Campbell Bower all join Costner in the series of films. Costner is also credited as a producer alongside Howard Kaplan and Mark Gillard.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Costner has been trying to get Horizon: An America Saga made since 1988 and has contributed at least $20 million of his own money to the film’s budget. While only the first two chapters have release dates at this time, the epic is expected to span four films in total.

Costner is no stranger to the western genre. In 1990, he directed and starred in Dances with Wolves, which earned him Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Director. He’s also starred in 1985’s Silverado, 1994’s Wyatt Earp, 2003’s Open Range (which he also directed), and 2020’s Let Him Go, among others.

Additionally, Costner is known for starring in Paramount Network’s Yellowstone, a series created by Taylor Sheridan and John Linson that premiered in 2018. In May 2023, Paramount announced Costner was exiting the series after the second half of the fifth season, which airs in November 2023.

Director Gabe Polsky’s film, having had its world premiere at last year’s Toronto Film Festival, stars the Academy Award winning actor as an obsessive hunter named Miller who knows of a remote valley in the Colorado Rockies teeming with thousands of buffalo. An obsessed Miller convinces a young Harvard dropout named Will Andrews, played by Fred Hechinger, to finance what proves to be an extremely hazardous trip.

“This film has been many years in the making, and after an epically challenging shoot and a world premiere at TIFF, I’m so excited that now is the time for the world to see it,” Polsky says in an exclusive statement provided to EW. “Audiences are in for a harrowing journey and an enigmatic Nicolas Cage performance that explores the nature of ambition — the powerful and destructive energy that has shaped America and our planet.”

While attending the film’s TIFF premiere in 2022, Cage revealed that his performance was partly inspired by a certain NBA megastar. “Gabe Polsky wanted me to shave the head because he was thinking about Michael Jordan,” the actor told EW at the time. “Michael Jordan on the court, and that need to win. Isn’t that in Miller? The need to score, to win. I started thinking about it.”

Cage admitted his look might also owe a little to Marlon Brando’s Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse Now. “There is a kind of Joseph Conrad, Kurtz view by way of Coppola’s Apocalypse Now appearance to the shaved head,” Cage said. “It sort of works. It coalesces. It could be both. It could be Michael Jordan meets Marlon Brando in Apocalypse Now.”

The cast of Butcher’s Crossing also includes Rachel Keller, Xander Berkeley, Jeremy Bobb, and Paul Raci. The movie will be released in theaters through Saban Films nationwide this Oct. 20.

Night Swim is written and directed by Bryce McGuire (Baghead), based on his 2014 short film. The film will be led by Oscar nominee Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin) as Eve, Wyatt Russell (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) as Ray Waller, Amélie Hoeferle (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes) as Izzy, and Gavin Warren (Fear the Walking Dead) as Elliot.

Thanksgiving stars Patrick Dempsey, Addison Rae, Milo Manheim, Jalen Thomas Brooks, Nell Verlaque, Rick Hoffman, Gina Gershon, Tim Dillon, Gabriel Davenport, Tomaso Sanelli, and Jenna Warren. The story comes from Roth and Jeff Rendell, with Rendell writing the screenplay. Roth and Rendell are also producing the film alongside Roger Birnbaum.

Paramount Pictures has released a new trailer for Killers of the Flower Moon, directed and co-written by Scorsese. The footage sheds further light on the romance shared between DiCaprio and Lily Gladstone’s characters, which then puts DiCaprio in direct conflict with his uncle, played by De Niro.

Directed by Yon Motskin, the new docuseries from Amblin Entertainment, Boardwalk Pictures, and VICE Studios will consist of four different tales of bizarre events and encounters with extraterrestrial life forms that gained both global attention and suspicion. It will include interviews with authorities from various fields and other coverage from reputable news organizations.

Each episode will tackle different stories, one of which explores the alien encounter a group of children in Zimbabwe experienced. Furthermore, Encounters will also highlight the unknown creatures that once tampered with the Japanese nuclear power plant’s operations and a mysterious submersible spacecraft seen off the coast of a Welsh village, as well as revelations from military whistleblowers and secret programs that aim to deep dive into the otherworldly phenomena often dismissed as mere conspiracy.

The docuseries includes interviews with a naval intelligence cryptologist, a journalist, a nanotechnology engineer, and a former NASA research scientist.

“As told from the perspective of firsthand experiencers – in the places where the sightings occurred – and guided by cutting-edge scientists and military personnel, the series goes beyond the science to highlight the profoundly human impact of these encounters on lives, families, and communities,” the synopsis reads. “A timely and timeless cosmic detective story, what will be revealed from this puzzle of seemingly unrelated encounters across different places, times, and cultures is a set of uncanny similarities, and one astonishing truth: extraterrestrial encounters are global, awe-inspiring, and unlike anything we’ve ever imagined.”

The 8-episode drama is also directed by Michael Fimognari, who is executive producing along with Flanagan, Trevor Macy, and Emmy Grinwis.
